Skull Plate. Ceramic. 2022.

Skeletons are a reoccuring element in much of my artwork which is why I landed on one for the main decoration of this plate. Originally I had just drawn in the skull, but felt the plate was lacking excitement, hence the zig-zag lines expanding from the center. This ceramic Skull Plate, 13”x9”, was made by draping a slab of clay over an old bowl mold. It was then trimmed and smoothed. The skull design was created by hand painting a latex resist before glazing. The plate was then dipped in a black glaze and the latex was stripped away before firing.
